Achieving goals together

The "Weinwelt Girlan" is not a profit-oriented association. Our goal is not economic success of any kind, but exclusively the preservation of the heritage of our ancestors. From the very beginning, our focus has been on protecting the cellars of Girlan from any form of misuse and preserving them for posterity.
To this end, there have been countless discussions over the years, ideas have been born and in some cases discarded, negotiations have been conducted and political decisions have been made. Despite all this, we are still a long way from reaching our goal. In order to transfer the cellars that are no longer in use into public ownership and thus save them from speculation and business interests, we need staying power - and a sense of community.
To strengthen this sense of community, "Weinwelt Girlan" has organised various events over the years: "Die Letzte Fuhre" since 2004, the "Girlaner Weinsommer" since 2010 and the "Rebenblüte" since 2012.
The idea for the "Letzte Fuhre" came from the first chairman of the "Weinwelt", Hartmuth Spitaler, who wanted to revive an old custom and celebrate it together with the whole village. At that time, the "Weinwelt" was still a working group within the Eppan Association for the Preservation of Local History.
Ehrentraut Riegler Troger, a "Weinwelt" member from the very beginning, was immediately enthusiastic about the idea, because "in the course of an agricultural year there were many customs that have been forgotten in our fast-moving times. So after the busy and exhausting harvest time, people were happy that everything had gone well and showed this by decorating the last bunch of grapes with garlands, wreaths, flowers and a saying board and driving it to the winery. The plaques were then hung up in the winery."
Today, the Girlan and Schreckbichl wineries take turns providing the grapes for the "Letzte Fuhre". Accompanied by a festively dressed "Saltner" (vineyard keeper), these are brought to the Girlan church square in a vat, pressed into juice in an old press and distributed free of charge to all those present.
Over the years, the event has become an attraction for guests and locals alike. You can see "Die Letzte Fuhre" every year in mid-October - regardless of whether the harvest is finished or not.
Historic wine farms with their impressive wine cellars, fine wines, culinary delights and music: this has been the "Girlaner Weinsommer" in South Tyrol's oldest wine village since 2010. Various winegrowers open the doors to their farms and cellars and invite to taste noble wines. The "Hof am Platz", the "Glögglhof", the "Mauracherhof" and the Girlan winery started the event.
With the "Rebenblüte", the "Weinwelt Girlan" invites you to experience the interplay of culture and wine. The combination has been very popular from the very beginning: enjoy a glass of wine while listening to a cabaret or a reading, or enjoying the sounds of classical music, jazz and pop. The event takes place at the end of May, beginning of June and marks the beginning of blossoming in the vineyards.
Not to be left unmentioned is the "Girlaner Kellerfest", which was launched in June 1990 on the occasion of the 1400th anniversary of the municipality of Eppan and has enjoyed great popularity from the very beginning. On this occasion, the privately owned deep cellars were opened to the general public for the first time.
Since the beginning of its activities, "Weinwelt Girlan" has been involved in the "Girlaner Kellerfest", which now takes place every four years in August or September.
